After trying winesave once I have been totally converted. It is great to have an affordable home winesave® device that actually works and keeps the wine for a good length of time. I'm sure will be a must have for every wine lover Dawn Davies, Head Sommelier, Selfridges UK

I opened a bottle of Hunter Shiraz to taste in late November and immediately closed with winesave®. Just opened it to have a look (2.5 months later) and the wine is as fresh as a daisy. Ben Edwards, President, Sommeliers Australia, Consultant sommelier, Editor The Wine Guide

What is winesave®?

winesave® is 100% pure, food grade argon gas.

Why use argon?

Argon is totally inert. It's colourless, odourless, flavourless and has no taste. Above all, it combines with nothing. That means it has no effect on anything it comes in contact with. And most important, argon is 2½ times heavier than air! Because of its weight, it falls through air and rests on whatever lies beneath it. Dispensed into an open wine bottle, it falls down and lays across the surface of the wine, forming a barrier between the precious liquid and the air.

How does it keep open wine perfectly?

The characteristics of wine alter and decay because of exposure to the atmosphere, particularly wine's enemy – oxygen. Oxygenation begins as soon as the bottle is opened and accelerates once the wine is poured. By dispensing argon into an opened bottle, the air and its destructive elements are displaced from the entire surface of the remaining wine within seconds. The argon provides a perfect and impenetrable seal.

How do I use winesave®?

Fit the rubber tube extension (provided) on the nozzle on the top of the canister. Then insert the extension into the opened bottle of wine so that it's facing the side of the bottle no less than about 4 centimetres above the wine. Press the nozzle for about one second and then replace the wine bottle's cap, cork or stopper. Store the wine bottle in an upright position and avoid shaking or tipping it. Each can of winesave® is enough for approximately 50 saves. When you're ready for your next glass of wine, simply pour as normal – the argon will return to the atmosphere naturally. Re-apply if you're not going to finish the bottle.

How long after opening a bottle should I use winesave?

Everyone has their own idea about how long it takes for wine to pass the "opening"phase and enter the deterioration phase. Experts will tell you it differs from wine to wine. We suggest you use winesave once you've decided to keep remaining wine until another occasion. Restaurants serving wines-by-the-glass use winesave® to preserve remaining wine at the end of service or when wine is not going to be poured again that day.

Will it work with sparkling wines?

Yes – for the same reasons as it does for still wines but you will also need a stopper capable of sealing the carbonation in the bottle. Inevitably, there will be some loss of CO2 although much less than normal but the flavour will be preserved perfectly.

Is this completely new technology?

The role of argon in preserving wine has been known and used by wine makers for many years. The technology that brings winesave® from the winery to the wine drinker is new. It's affordable and precision packed in an inexpensive, easy to use container which is safe and environmentally friendly. The can and its components are all recyclable and the argon returns to the atmosphere from where it originated.
